James Johnston has been making independent films for about ten years now. His works include Merrily, Merrily, Deadroom, GDMF, and music videos for the acclaimed bands The Theater Fire and Bosque Brown. Through his company Beautiful Confusion Films he produced the award winning feature St. Nick, which is currently touring the fest circuit and the recently wrapped film Carried Away. He also co-Produced the theatrically released feature Ciao. Johnston did not attend film school and took his first fateful step towards filmmaking by volunteering to work on ultra low-budget films. From there, he kept working on projects in various roles and this is how he gained real world experience and collected a great group of friends and collaborators that he works with on a regular basis. In addition to filmmaking Johnston is on the QCinema International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival Board of Directors and on the Advisory Board and Programming Committee for the Lone Star International Film Festival. When not working on films, he is Executive Chef of the award-winning chain of vegan restaurants, Spiral Diner & Bakery.  Johnston currently resides in Fort Worth with his wife Amy McNutt, two cats, and two rabbits.
